What effect, if any, do you think the Lebanese Shia diaspora has on Hezbollah's and Amal's future? In the 1980s, Nabih Berri lived in Dearborn, Michigan, USA - and at that time, he had over 1,000 relatives there. 40+ years on, that number may be 4,000 or more. Dearborn is now the Shia "capital" of the USA, the largest majority-Muslim city, and people there openly hold rallies in support of Hezbollah and Berri, and memorials for Nasrallah and Haniyeh. Back in the GW Bush era, a well known Dearborn restaurateur fled to Lebanon because the FBI had warrants to arrest him for money laundering and supporting Hezbollah financially. While this sort of aid is minuscule compared to what a petro-state like the IRI could provide, it seems reasonable that similar arrangements may be in place now. (Call it a diversification strategy - especially with the Lebanese government intercepting deliveries from Iran.) The Biden administration would most likely have ignored them. Who knows what the Trump administration might do, given how much he praises the Arab voters in Michigan who supported him.
