"Lebanon is not Gaza. Lebanon is a country whose economy was once growing by leaps and bounds and whose very existence was the envy of many in the region"

I remember stories, apocryphal perhaps, of a famous French economist being invited by the Lebanese government in the 1950s to study the economy. After several months, he reported "This is incomprehensible: you manufacture nothing, you export nothing, you extract nothing and yet, you're rich".

Lebanon can thank the Palestinian and Syrian influx that today this assessment would itself be incomprehensible.

Excellent article. Outstanding sage advice for the Lebanese to adhere to. It’s time for Lebanon to take care of the Lebanese and let others take care of the Palestinian issue. Peace and economic ties between Lebanon and Israel is the only way forward to pulling Lebanon out of the pits of poverty and destruction and providing hope and prosperity to its citizens.
